Lester downright masterful as homers sink Cueto, Giants

(Photo by Jonathan Daniel/Getty Images) Cubs 4 Kyle Schwarber and Jason Heyward both hit solo homers in the first and second innings, respectively, to give the Chicago Cubs a 2-0 lead over the San Francisco Giants. Anthony Rizzo also hit a homer, a two-run smash, that plated he and Kris Bryant in the fourth inning. The Giants scored their only run in the fifth inning after Brandon Crawford doubles, plating Buster Posey. Posey reached by smacking a double of his own. He currently sits at third in the National League in batting average at .361. For the Giants, Johnny Cueto tossed six innings, allowing all four runs on five hits and a walk. Cueto did have one positive on the night as he struck out eight on 98 pitches. Cueto's era moved up to 4.64, ranking 31st in the NL. After Cueto retired for the night, Bryan Morris threw one inning, as did Josh Osich. Neither allowed a hit or a walk, and Osich struck out...

Blach struck out 4 while allowing 5 hits and 2 walks. Brandon Belt went deep for the 8th time this season, a solo shot in the 4th. Brandon Crawford plated Belt on a go-ahead single in the 6th and Derek Law claimed the save as the Giants beat the Dodgers 2-1. Dodgers' starter Rich Hill went 5.0 innings, allowing 1 run on 6 hits and no walks, while striking out 6. Chris Taylor notched his 4th homer of the year for the Dodgers' only run. The Giants extend their winning streak to 5 games, sitting at 17-24. They are still 4th in the NL West, 8.5 games behind the Rockies. The Dodgers fall to 22-18, 3rd in the NL West, 3.0 games behind the Rockies. May 15- D-backs Go Deep 3 Times in 8th, Giants' Cain Hits Historic Mark

Buster Posey went deep for the 7th time this season and Eduardo Nunez plated 3 on an RBI single in the 4th and RBI double in the 8th. Matt Cain regained his confidence on the mound, tossing 6.2 innings, allowing 1 run on 5 hits and 3 walks, while striking out 5. He also became only the 12th Giants pitcher to hit the 2,000 innings mark. Dodgers starter Brandon McCarthy went 5.2 innings, allowing 6 runs on 8 hits and 1 walk, while striking out 5. The Dodgers started a comeback in the 9th inning, scoring 3 times, but still falling 4 runs short. The Giants will face the Dodgers again tomorrow in San Francisco. Giants' starter Jeff Samardzija went 6.2 innings allowing 3 runs on 9 hits and no walks, while striking out 8. Reds' pitcher Tim Adelman only lasted 1.0 inning, leaving the game with stiffness in his neck. He allowed 4 runs (3 earned) on 3 hits and 2 walks, with no strikeouts. Scooter Gennett plated 2 on a single in the 5th for the Reds. The Reds fall to 19-18, tied for 3rd in the NL Central. The Reds will play the Cubs in Chicago on Tuesday. Sale struck out 12, but allowed the Rays to score 3 times. Ray's starter Blake Snell threw 5.2 innings, allowing 6 runs on 6 hits and 3 walks, while striking out 5. For the Red Sox, Mookie Betts hit his 6th home run of the season, a 2-run shot in the 3rd inning. The Rays fall to 18-21, 4th in the AL East, 6.5 games behind the Orioles. Denard Span plated the other Giants runs, including a solo homer of his own in the 1st inning. Both teams missed opportunities in the 8th inning when it was tied 1-1. For the Red Sox, starter Eduardo Rodriguez went 6.0 innings allowing 1 run on 3 hits and no walks, while striking out 5. Brewers starter Jimmy Nelson tossed 6.2 innings, allowing 1 run (0 earned) on 4 hits and 4 walks, while striking out 8. The Mets led 3-2 going into the 9th and even countered with 2 of their own runs in the 9th, but fell short, losing 6-5. This 4 run rally came courtesy of a Hunter Pence single and a Christian Arroyo double that plated 3. Matt Cain tossed 5.0 innings allowing 3 runs (2 earned), on 2 hits and 2 walks, striking out 3. Mets' starter Tommy Milone threw 5.0 innings as well, allowing  2 runs on 6 hits and 2 walks, striking out 5.  Mets' closer Jeurys Familia blew the save in his 3rd straight outing. Griffin threw a stellar complete game shutout as the Texas Rangers offense lit up the San Diego Padres with 3 multi run home runs. Ryan Rua hit a 3-run homer; Joey Gallo and Robinson Chirinos both hit 2-run homers. Griffin allowed 4 hits and 1 walk, while striking out 4 on 104 pitches. For the Padres, starter Jered Weaver lasted only 3.0 innings, allowing 7 runs on 6 hits and 2 walks, striking out 4.
