Kyle Schwarber and Jason Heyward both hit solo homers in the first and second innings, respectively, to give the Chicago Cubs a 2-0 lead over the San Francisco Giants. Anthony Rizzo also hit a homer, a two-run smash, that plated he and Kris Bryant in the fourth inning.

The Giants scored their only run in the fifth inning after Brandon Crawford doubles, plating Buster Posey. Posey reached by smacking a double of his own. He currently sits at third in the National League in batting average at .361.

For the Giants, Johnny Cueto tossed six innings, allowing all four runs on five hits and a walk. Cueto did have one positive on the night as he struck out eight on 98 pitches. Cueto's era moved up to 4.64, ranking 31st in the NL.

After Cueto retired for the night, Bryan Morris threw one inning, as did Josh Osich. Neither allowed a hit or a walk, and Osich struck out two.

For the Cubs, Jon Lester tossed a complete game, allowing one run on four hits and no walks. Lester was masterful as he struck out 10 on 99 pitches. His ERA shrank to 3.19, ranking ninth in the NL.

Rizzo's homer was his ninth of the season. He is tied with seven other players and ranks 21st overall in home runs in the NL this season. Rizzo also ranks 24th in the NL for RBIs with 26.

The Giants fall to 20-27 after the loss. They remain in fourth place in the NL West, but slide back to 10 games behind the Colorado Rockies, who currently have the best record in the NL at 30-17.

The Cubs move up to two games over .500, with a 23-21 record. They are still third in the NL Central, but they are only 1.5 games behind the Milwaukee Brewers who have lost two straight.

The Giants will play their third of four games at Wrigley Field tomorrow at 5:05 p.m. PT. Matt Moore will look for revenge after the Giants blew his great start in Game 4 of the 2016 NLDS. Moore tossed eight innings, allowing two runs on two hits, while striking out 10 in that game. Then the Cubs rallied back and scored four times in the ninth to win the game and the series. Moore will face Kyle Hendricks who is 3-2 with a 3.35 ERA this season. Moore is currently 2-4 with a 5.37 ERA.
