A.J. Griffin threw a stellar complete game shutout as the Texas Rangers offense lit up the San Diego Padres with 3 multi run home runs. Ryan Rua hit a 3-run homer; Joey Gallo and Robinson Chirinos both hit 2-run homers. Griffin allowed 4 hits and 1 walk, while striking out 4 on 104 pitches. For the Padres, starter Jered Weaver lasted only 3.0 innings, allowing 7 runs on 6 hits and 2 walks, striking out 4.

The Rangers are now 14-20, still last in the AL West, 8.5 games behind the division leading Astros.

The Padres sit at 13-21 after the loss, 4th in the NL West, 8.0 games behind the Rockies.

The Rangers will take on the Padres again tomorrow, this time at home, at 5:05 p.m. PT.

Indians 6

Carlos Carrasco won his 4th game of the season as he tossed 7.0 shutout innings over the Toronto Blue Jays. Yan Gomes hit a 3-run homer in the 8th inning to put the nail in the coffin for Toronto. Carrasco allowed 3 hits and no walks, striking out 7. For the Blue Jays, Mike Bolsinger threw 5.2 innings, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits and 4 walks, striking out 4.

The Indians are now 18-14, still atop the AL Central by 1.0 game.

The Blue Jays sit at 12-21, last in the AL East, behind the division leading Orioles by 10.5 games.

The Indians will face the Blue Jays again tomorrow at 4:07 p.m. PT in Toronto.

Giants 1
Mets 6

The Mets capitalized on a 4-run 1st inning and the Giants could not close the gap. The Giants only run came off a solo homer by Buster Posey, his second game in a row hitting a solo homer. Mets' pitcher Zack Wheeler threw 6.0 innings, allowing 1 run on 2 hits and 4 walks, while striking out 4. For the Giants, starter Jeff Samardzija went 7.0 innings, allowing 6 runs on 10 hits and no walks, striking out 9.

The Giants are now 11-23, last in the NL West, behind the Rockies by 10.0 games.

The Mets sit at 16-16 after the win, 2nd in the NL East, cutting their deficit to the Nationals to 4.5 games.

The Giants will face the Mets again tomorrow at home at 10:10 a.m. PT.

Cubs 4
Rockies 10

Mark Reynolds extended his home run game streak to 4, helping the Colorado Rockies demolish Jake Arrieta and the Chcicago Cubs . Reynolds and Ryan Hanigan led the Rockies with 3 RBIs each. Rockies starter Antonio Senzatela went 6.0 innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks, while striking out 4. For the Cubs, Arrieta lasted only 3.2 innings, allowing 9 runs (5 earned) on 9 hits and 3 walks, striking out 3.

Cubs 8
Rockies 1

In the latter half of the double header, Cubs pitcher John Lackey silenced the Rockies. Lackey threw 7.0 innings, allowing 0 runs on 4 hits and 2 walks, while striking out 10. The Cubs lit up Rockies starter Kyle Freeland for 5 runs (3 earned) all in the 1st inning. Freeland lasted 6.0 innings, allowing 4 hits and 4 walks, striking out 6.

After splitting the series, the Cubs sit at 17-16, 3rd in the NL Central, 1.5 games behind the Cardinals. The Rockies are now 21-13, still atop the NL West by 1.5 games.

The Rockies will play the Cubs again tomorrow at 12:10 p.m. PT in Colorado.

The Mariners came back from a 9-5 deficit to beat the Phillies 10-9. Taylor Motter hit a go-ahead double in the 9th inning to give the Mariners the win. Mariners starter Ariel Miranda lasted only 3.1 innings, allowing 8 runs on 6 hits and 3 walks, striking out 1. For the Phillies, pitcher Jerad Eickhoff went only slightly longer at 3.2 innings allowing 5 runs on 8 hits and 3 walks, striking out 2.

The Mariners sit at 16-17, tied for 2nd in the AL West, 6.0 games behind the Astros.

The Phillies are now 13-18 after the loss, 3rd in the NL East, 7.0 games behind the Nationals.

Nationals 4
Orioles 5

Mark Trumbo hit a walk-off single in the 12th inning to lift the Baltimore Orioles over their rival Washington Nationals for the 2nd straight game. Orioles pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez tossed 7.2 innings, allowing 4 runs on 5 hits and 2 walks, while striking out 6. Nationals Ace Max Scherzer tossed 8.0 stellar innings, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits and 2 walks, while striking out 11. Enny Romero blew the save for the Nat's.

The Nationals sit at 21-12 after 3 straight losses, still atop the NL East by 4.5 games.

The Orioles are riding a 6 game win streak and now have the best record in baseball with a 22-10 record, though only 0.5 game ahead of the Yankees in the AL East.

The Nationals will face the Orioles again tomorrow at 4:05 p.m. PT in Washington.

The Kansas City Royals came back from a 5-2 deficit to beat the Tampa Bay Rays 7-6. Royals pitcher Chris Young threw 3.0 innings allowing 4 runs on 7 hits and 4 walks, striking out 2. Rays starter Matt Andriese tossed 5.1 innings allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits and 2 walks, while striking out 7.

The Royals are now 12-20, last in the AL Central, 6.0 games behind the Indians.

The Rays sit at 16-19 after the loss, 4th in AL East, 7.5 games behind the Orioles.

The Royals will play the Rays again tomorrow at 4:10 p.m. PT in Tampa Bay.

The Cincinnati Reds capitalized on a 5 run 2nd inning to beat the Yankees 5-3. Billy Hamilton and Joey Votto each had 2 RBIs for the Reds. For the Reds, Tim Adleman lasted 5.0 innings allowing 3 runs on 5 hits and 2 walks, while striking out 6. Yankees starter CC Sabathia went 6.0 innings, allowing 5 runs on 7 hits and 2 walks, striking out 2.

The Yankees are now 21-10 after the loss, 0.5 game back of the Orioles in the AL East.

The Reds sit at 18-15, 0.5 game back of the Cardinals in the NL East.

The Reds have an off day tomorrow, they will travel to San Francisco to play the Giants on Friday at 7:15 p.m. PT. The Yankees also have an off day as they will return home to face the Astros on Friday at 4:05 p.m. PT.

The St. Louis Cardinals came back from a 5-1 deficit to beat the Miami Marlins 6-5. The Cardinals capitalized on a 4 run 8th inning and scored once more in the 9th. Marlins slinger Dan Straily tossed 7.0 innings, allowing 1 run on 3 hits and 1 walk, striking out 5. Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright threw 5.1 innings allowing 4 runs on 4 hits and 3 walks, while striking out 3.

The Cardinals sit at 18-14, still atop the NL Central, 0.5 game over the Reds.

The Marlins are now 13-19 after the loss, 3rd in the NL East, 7.5 games back of the Nationals.

The Cardinals will face the Marlins again tomorrow at 4 p.m. PT in Miami.

Red Sox 7

The Milwaukee Brewers opened up with 5 runs in the 1st inning, scoring 6 more times throughout the game to beat the Boston Red Sox 11-7. Red Sox pitcher Drew Pomeranz lasted 4.0 innings, allowing 6 runs on 7 hits and 2 walks, striking out 2. Milwaukee starter Wily Peralta tossed 4.1 innings, allowing 4 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks, striking out 4.

The Red Sox are now 17-15 after the loss, 3rd in the AL East, 5.0 games behind the Orioles.

The Brewers sit at 17-16, tied for 3rd in the NL Central, 1.5 games behind the Cardinals.

The Red Sox will play the Brewers again tomorrow at 5:10 p.m. PT in Milwaukee.

The Houston Astros had a huge 5 run 1st inning, scoring all 5 runs before Braves starter Bartolo Colon got an out, that gave them a lead they never surrendered. Colon threw 5.2 innings, allowing 8 runs on 8 hits with no walks, striking out 3. Astros starter Charlie Morton also threw 5.2 innings, allowing 3 runs (1 earned) on 5 hits and 4 walks, striking out 5.

The Braves fall to 11-19, last in the NL East, 8.5 games behind the Nationals.

The Astros are now 22-11, atop the AL West by 5.5 games.

The Braves will face the Astros in Houston again tomorrow at 11:10 a.m. PT.

The Minnesota Twins capitalized on a 3 run 4th inning and 4 run 6th inning to beat the Chicago White Sox 7-2. Twins starter Hector Santiago went 6.2 innings allowing 2 runs on 3 hits and 5 walks, striking out 6. White Sox pitcher Mike Pelfrey threw 4.2 innings, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits and 1 walk, striking out 2.

The Twins are now 16-14 after the win, 2nd in the AL Central, 1.0 game behind the Indians.

The White Sox sit at 15-16,  4th in the AL Central, 2.5 games behind the Indians.

The Twins will face the White Sox again tomorrow in Chicago at 5:10 p.m. PT.

The Detroit Tigers took advantage of a solid start by Justin Verlander to beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-3. Verlander tossed 6.0 innings allowing 3 runs on 7 hits and 3 walks, striking out 7. D-Backs starter Robbie Ray went 5.0 innings, allowing 5 runs on 5 hits and 5 walks, striking out 8. Home runs by James McCann and Justin Upton helped the Tigers along the way.

The Tigers are now 16-15 after the win, 3rd in the AL Central, 1.5 games behind the Indians.

The D-Backs are now 18-16, 3rd in the NL West, 3.0 games behind the Rockies.

The Tigers will take on the D-Backs again tomorrow at 6:40 p.m. PT in Phoenix.

The Los Angeles Angels went deep 3 times in the first 2 innings to beat the Oakland A's. Albert Pujols hit his 596th career home run, inching closer to the 600 club. Ben Revere and Yunel Escobar also hit homers, Revere's a solo and Escobars a 3-run homer. Alex Mayer lasted 5.1 innings for the Angels, allowing 3 runs on 4 hits and 5 walks, striking out 7. A's pitcher Jharel Cotton threw 5.0 innings, allowing 7 runs on 8 hits and 1 walk, also striking out 7.

The Angels sit at 17-18 after the win, 3rd in the AL West, 6.0 games behind the Astros.

The A's are now 15-18, 4th in the AL West, 7.0 games behind the Astros.

The Angels will take on the A's in Oakland again tomorrow at 12:35 p.m. PT.

The Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Pittsburgh Pirates on a walk off double by Austin Barnes in the 10th inning. Yasmani Grandal also helped the Dodgers along the way with a 2-run homer. Dodgers pitcher Julio Urias tossed 6.1 innings, allowing 1 run on 1 hit and 2 walks, while striking out 5. Pirates starter Ivan Nova also went 6.1 innings, allowing 2 runs on 7 hits and 2 walks, striking out 2.

The Pirates sit at 14-19 after the loss, last in the NL Central, though only 4.5 games behind the division leading Cardinals.

The Dodgers move up to 19-14, closing the gap to 1.5 games behind the Rockies in the NL West.
